The Czech terrier leaves no one indifferent, since when we see it, it usually makes us funny due to its morphology, since it seems as if a larger dog had cut their legs.

Origin of Czech Terrier
Unlike what happens with the vast majority of races, the origin of the Czech terrier is documented and occurred in what is now the Czech Republic, being one of the few breeds of dogs from which we know how it arose.
Its creation is very recent and dates from 1948, when a person named, Fontisek Horak was looking for a way to get a dog that was the best to hunt in Bohemia forests.
This man was a research assistant in the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, so that he used everything he learned in the laboratories and crossed the Sealyham Terrier and the Scottish terrier.
The race did not take long to settle, since in 1963 it was recognized in the world by the FCI, although right now it is not one of the most famous dogs, but quite the opposite, because it is one of the rarest races today and it is not easy to see a copy.
Characteristics of the Czech Terrier
It has a very characteristic feature such as its legs, since they have them very short and hold a long body that seems that it does not go well with those limbs so scarce.
In addition, his head is very long and adorned by a very closed beard, mustache and eyebrows, which gives it a more peculiar appearance if we combine all those features.
We can verify that the hair is silky and soft, quite fine and with colors such as gray, blue, gray, white, yellow, etc., although as a curiosity, say that when all puppies are born they are black, acquiring their final hue over the months.
As for the color of the eyes, it is linked to that of the mantle. Thus, gray dogs have brown eyes, while brown dogs are blue or yellow.
The color of the nose and lips also changes, which can be blue if the mantle is black or liver if the layer is of a brown tone.
Character
Very affectionate with the people you know, although with the strangers it will be distant, without ever being aggressive.
Despite the aspect it has, instincts are present, so that it can create problems with small animals, chasing them, although that is possible to solve it with a little training.
You have to warn that it is something stubborn and head, so we will have to educate it positively since it is small, for which we can take advantage of the sports in which the dog has to be obedient and agile, in which he has stood out.

Health
It is not one of those dogs that will make us spend a lot of time in the veterinarian, but it does have a couple of diseases that can affect it more.
One of them is the luxation of Rotula, a displacement that causes limp, inability to walk and that is frequent in smaller breeds.
The other is rarely and is called Scotty Cramp, from the Scottish Terrier who was one of the parents of the race, and that causes spasms and problems in the legs, especially in puppies and in young animals.
It shows that the dog does not walk well and that it does it as if it were a goose, with the arched spine, solving only a few minutes, although it can be treated with medications.
It is a hereditary disease, so if our Czech terrier suffers it we will never raise with him, nor with parents and brothers.
Removing these two health problems, there is none more than you have to worry.
Czech terrier feed
In specialized stores we will find dog feed for small breeds, the one that best goes to the Czech terrier, since these foods take into account both the size of the mouth and that of the animal's stomach.
Therefore, they manufacture very small croquettes, easy to break and in turn with the fair resistance to clean the teeth, while they are easier to digest by a stomach that is not too large.

Care

We must brush it at least three times a week, focusing on the hair of the face, that of the legs and the belly, just where it is longer and in which the skewers, the scraps will be stuck and all the dirt on the street will accumulate.

Another of the main care has to do with the walks, since although it looks like a dog that can be at home all day, it is not so and it has a lot of energy to spend.
He is not a friend of fast walks, but he likes to go out and explore while barking, and it is a fairly noisy animal.
Maybe the city is not the best site for this Czech terrier, whose natural habitat is the countryside, but If we decide that he will live with us in the city, we must know what will need enough attention And that he will have to go out often or in the end he will end up destroying the cushions, sofas, etc.
