When a puppy is an adult

While the transition from puppy to adult varies from dog to dog, there are some general patterns that can help you determine when your pet has stopped being a puppy.

In small breeds, a dog is considered to reach adulthood between 9 months and one year of age.

In medium breeds, this period usually lasts between a year and a year and a half.

On the other hand, in large breeds, full maturity can take up to 2 years to reach.

What daily ration should I give him?

Example of interpretation of a daily ration table for puppies

  1. Know the approximate weight of the PUPPY, example of 20-25kg
  2. Find the column that corresponds According to the current age.

* Example for a 6-7 month old puppy dog weighing 20-25kg the ration would be 300-340g/day.

We remember that these parameters are an example to help interpret the corresponding table for your puppy.

These amounts are approximate; They can vary depending on various factors, among others: whether the puppy is a suckling dog, age, breed, temperament, activity levels, climate... so they must be adjusted to keep the dog at its optimal weight.

Always have clean, fresh water available to your dog. Store in a cool, dry place with the container closed.

Use this food from lactation to 9 months -1 year depending on the breed. If your puppy is less than 3 months old and is not used to eating dry food, it is advisable to moisten the croquettes in warm water, taking care to remove what has not been consumed within a maximum period of 3 hours.

It is advisable to divide the recommended daily amount into 3-4 doses before 6 months, which can be reduced to 2 doses from the 6th month onwards. It is important to adjust without exceeding the total recommended daily amount.

Example of interpretation of an adult daily ration table

  1. Know the approximate weight and look for it in the row of the table.
  2. Find the column that corresponds According to the current age.

* Example for a 40kg dog the ration would be 410-460g/day.

* We remember that these parameters are an example to help interpret the corresponding table for your dog.

These amounts are approximate; They can vary depending on various factors, among others: age, breed, temperament, activity levels, climate... so they must be adjusted to keep the dog at its optimal weight.

As a guide, the daily ration will be between 1% and 1.5% of the dog's weight. It must be administered dry. Always have clean, fresh water available to your dog. Store in a cool, dry place with the container closed.

How should I make the transition?

It is advisable to make the transition in 7-8 extendable days:

  • 1-2nd Day 25% of the new feed and 75% of the previous one.
  • 3-4th Day 50% of the new feed and 50% of the previous one.
  • 5-6th Day 75% of the new feed and 25% of the previous one.
  • 7-8th Day 100% of new feed.

There is no need to be scared if for any reason we extend the transition a few more days, the important thing is to maintain these parameters as much as possible so that the animal adapts 100% to the new food. If the transition is not gradual and correct, there is a risk that the animal will show signs of diarrhea, vomiting and sometimes rejection of the new food.

Can I mix two different foods and give them to my dog?

It is not advisable to mix several feed references in the same usual daily ration. Mixing is only permitted in the transition period with appropriate guidelines.
